>>expansion boosts sales and aids staff retention
Founded in 1999, Blakemore Food Service has witnessed extraordinary growth in the last five years.
Operating from a 63,000 sq ft distribution centre in Darlaston, Wolverhampton, the company has doubled both its delivery fleet and storage facilities since its launch. It now employs 190 people and serves over 4,000 customers.
Sales and marketing director Peter Davison and his team have been charged with driving further growth through a three-year expansion strategy. Their plans include promotional campaigns, more focused marketing and the acquisition of more distribution sites.
Although it’s early days, the strategy, which was launched in January, seems to have paid off so far, with Davison claiming promotional sales have been boosted by 40%. He adds: “Not only has the team succeeded in expanding the customer base, increasing product sales, but it has also improved staff retention by 40% over the last 12 months and morale is higher.”
The team helping Davison achieve these figures are Andy Grinsell, operations director, Colin Shaw, contracts manager, Julie Astley, administration manager, Dirk Bickley, transport manager and Matt Johnson, contracts manager.
The team hit The Grocer’s headlines in February by rolling out foodservice sections to 21 Spar stores across the UK. Located primarily in tourist destinations, the stores offer 35 catering lines aimed at hotel and leisure outlets.
