Tesco is making “thousands of extra slots available” in the two weeks leading up to Christmas.

It is also urging customers to sign up for a Delivery Saver plan to secure early access to online slots, before they are made more broadly available.

Tesco shoppers signed up to an Anytime Delivery Saver plan or Click+Collect plan will be “in with a chance” of securing a slot a week in advance, with slots opening to them at 6am on 4 November. Slots open for all other customers, including those with Off-peak Delivery Saver, on 11 November at 6am.

This is around the same time that slots were opened to Delivery Saver shoppers last year. Last year, access to its Christmas delivery slots were brought forward by a week – and the supermarket added 60 vans to its fleet to cope with demand – a week earlier than in 2023, which itself was a week earlier than in 2022.

The additional slots are a mixture of home delivery and click & collect slots, the supermarket said, and available across the UK.

“The festive period is a busy time for many as we celebrate those all-important moments with family and friends, from the Christmas dinner trimmings to those special festive party favourites,” said Jillian Lidgate, Tesco online customer director. “We’re making it easier than ever before for customers to get everything they need delivered to their door.

“As we help families plan ahead for their Christmas shop, we are excited to be offering thousands of extra slots available in the fortnight leading up to Christmas Day.”

Customers who sign up to the Anytime Delivery Saver plan will benefit from access to priority Christmas slots this year as long they sign up by 3 November.

Slots remain subject to availability, Tesco said, and the latest slots to Christmas Day will either be on 23 December or 24 December for Delivery and Click+Collect, depending on location.

Tesco’s Anytime Delivery plan, which includes same-day delivery, costs £6.99 a month for a 12-month plan. Its Off Peak Delivery Plan is £3.99 a month for a 12-month plan, but does not include access to priority Christmas and Easter delivery slots and incurs a £2 surcharge for same-day delivery. The Click+Collect plan is £2.49 a month for six months and provides access to priority Christmas and Easter Click+Collect slots.

“There is no better time to sign up to a convenient Delivery Saver plan and benefit from Christmas priority slot bookings,” Lidgate added. “Delivery Saver plans not only give you early access to slots this festive season, but they can also save you up to £176 a year on delivery or collection fees.”

In January, Tesco announced it was bringing forward the time of the earliest slots available for same-day delivery, in what it described as a “market-leading move for a UK supermarket”.

Shoppers booking a slot before 8.45am can now select home delivery slots from 1pm and click & collect slots from midday. Previously, the soonest same-day home delivery slot was 7pm and, for click & collect, 4pm.

The earlier same-day options are available from more than 400 larger stores across the UK. The supermarket said the move meant its same-day slots were “at least four hours earlier than the earliest slot offered by any other full-line retailer”.
