Tesco is to recruit more than 28,500 temporary staff for the Christmas period.
The temp jobs in the most part involve working at Tesco’s Superstores and Extra stores, with early morning, day or evening shifts available.
The jobs range from serving customers and stocking shelves in stores, to picking orders for home delivery.
The supermarket said it is looking for candidates “who can bring warmth, enthusiasm and a helpful service to every shopping trip”.
“We’re excited to be recruiting festive colleagues to help make it a season to remember for our customers,” said Ela Golab, Tesco Group people services director.
“No day is ever the same, and festive colleagues will be able to feel the impact they make on every shift, as they send customers home with a smile. What’s more, no experience is necessary – just the right attitude,” Golab added.
Several supermarkets have sounded the klaxon on their festive hiring spree. Earlier this month Sainsbury’s and Argos launched a nationwide festive recruitment drive for 19,000 seasonal roles.

To tempt would-be temps, Sainsbury’s will provide them with free food during shifts and discounts of up to 15%.
Aldi was among the first to kick off its Christmas recruitment drive, with 4,500 positions to fill.
The discounter is hiring for a range of store positions to replenish stock and help customers during the festive season and into 2026, with store assistant, cleaner and managerial positions available.
The John Lewis Partnership began its hiring spree in September, hiring for 13,700 roles split across 3,000 extra jobs in 35 John Lewis stores and 8,500 positions in 215 Waitrose stores. A further 2,200 places are being opened up across the retailer’s distribution centres and supply chain network. The retailer said the recruitment campaign is its biggest ever.
