One-third of Lidl products cost less than a year ago, closely mirroring price cuts at rival discounter Aldi.
Aldi on Monday announced that more than a third of its products were cheaper in October than they were a year ago, and 40.7% cost the same.
New analysis by The Grocer using pricing data from Assosia found that the two discounters were well matched.
Of 4,108 products sold by Lidl on 2 November in 2026 and a year ago, 1,351 (32.9%) cost less and a further 1,679 (40.9%) were unchanged.
A Lidl GB spokesman told The Grocer: “Our commitment to delivering the highest quality at the lowest possible prices has never been stronger. With household budgets under pressure, we’ve invested more than £400m into price cuts and promotions this year. Layered on top of our everyday low pricing, Lidl Plus continues to deliver personalised rewards and bespoke savings to shoppers, ensuring unbeatable value on every single basket.”
Lidl has differentiated its pricing and loyalty approach from Aldi by investing in its discounts for Lidl Plus members. It is investing £75m in personalised coupons and points for users of the free app in the final quarter of the year.
