Children will be able to eat for free at The Range’s in-store cafés throughout the summer holidays, in what is the latest initiative launched to fight school holiday hunger.
Shoppers dining at any of The Range’s in-store Café Eighty Nine locations will be able to redeem a free kids’ meal, for every full-price adult main meal they buy from a select menu.
The offer will run until 31 August in England and Wales, and until 19 August in Scottish stores to coincide with the school holidays. By offering free kids’ meals, The Range hoped to provide “parents an easy way to help family finances go further and keep children entertained during the holidays”.
Kids will be able to choose from a selection of “budget-friendly” hot meals including a four-piece breakfast, fish fingers, chicken goujons, sausage or veggie sausage and chips. There is also a chilled Pick ‘n’ Mix sandwich meal deal.
Adults will only be able to redeem the free meal on a select number of main meals. It includes Fish, Chips & Peas, Burger, Chips & Salad, Tikka Masala and Mac & Cheese.
“Whether it’s a quick lunch stop during a shopping trip or a budget-friendly family treat, parents have one less thing to worry about during the long break with these value offers,” The Range said.
Food and drink companies are stepping up their efforts to combat school holiday hunger, amid fears that millions of children could go hungry as the cost of living crisis and soaring inflation continues to squeezes family budgets.
Iceland Foods – a long-standing concession partner of The Range owner CDS – released data last month that showed 85% said their food bills would increase because of the school holidays this year. Worryingly, 26% said they would resort to ‘buy now pay later’ schemes or loans to fill the gap.
