Tracy West, Barcelona Members of the Today's cash and carry group are introducing a new price fighting brand for independent retailers to replace Right Price in the wholesale sector. The new 20 strong Everyday Value range will be available in the next two to three months. Products will be pricemarked and a simple two colour design introduced to give Today's the flexibility to change prices at short notice. John Baines, senior trading controller, told the Today's annual conference: "The key to the success of this range is delivering to the consumer a value for money offering. "We then took the decision to pricemark the value offering but take the pricemarks off its counterpart in the Today's quality range." Today's own label products are also being redesigned. The household range becomes Today's Results and introduces antibacterial products and laundry tablets. In addition, the group's Very Important Traders club is being expanded into cash and carry, becoming the Privileged Customer Club. Wholesale development director Chris Dale said: "We have the VIT scheme for selected delivered wholesale members which is impractical for pure cash and carry. "However, many of our C&C members have loyal retailers who would fully utilise a door to door consumer leaflet." The group is also entering the phonecard supply market. Using its combined buying force with CBC, Today's has signed a deal with a leading phonecard supplier. Wholesalers introduce retailers to the card provider and then get a percentage of the retail sales. The retailer pays by direct debit and therefore gets a longer credit period. Other initiatives announced in Barcelona included the decision to bring together Today's services for retailers under the Today's Retail Solutions package; a new merchandising initiative on test in eight London wholesalers; and the launch of a new loyalty scheme giving retailers money off vouchers on Today's label goods. {{NEWS }}
