Scottish eggs will be available to Waitrose customers for the first time, thanks to a new partnership with Duncan Farms.
The deal between the Scottish business and premium retailer will see Duncan Farms’ free-range and organic eggs rolled out across Waitrose stores in Scotland.
This would see the supermarket offer “local, Scottish eggs to Waitrose customers for the first time”.
It comes as the Scottish producer has increased its free-range production by over 70% in the past two years and invested over £7m in expanding its packing centre – doubling its grading capacity and strengthening its ability to support future growth.
“Waitrose has a fantastic reputation for stocking high-quality produce, so we are proud to have our traceable, nutritious Scottish free-range and organic eggs listed,” said Duncan Farms owner Rachael Duncan.
“Following significant investment in our team and infrastructure across all stages of the egg production process, this partnership represents an important step in our continued growth,” she added. “We look forward to working and growing our brand with Waitrose.”
Duncan Farms operates a ‘field-to-fork model’, managing feed, production, grading and packing.
This, the business said, “enables full traceability, consistent quality assurance, and improved sustainability”.
Meeting growing demand for traceability, Duncan Farms has an online egg tracker allowing for every egg to be traced back to its farm of origin.
“We are delighted to be bringing Duncan Farms eggs to our Scottish stores,” Waitrose egg buyer Marianne Robson said. “We know our customers are looking for a direct connection to where their food comes from – a true ‘farm-to-fork’ experience – and you don’t get much better than a family-run business with such deep roots in Aberdeenshire.”
The rollout began on 13 May.
