Waitrose Welcome Break

Waitrose has revealed new plans to refurbish 30 stores this year, as well opening a new Little Waitrose convenience store in Ascot. The retailer also plans to expand its Welcome Break motorway services partnership.

Waitrose said today the plans were part of its ongoing multi-year £1bn investment into its physical store estate.

The new Ascot Little Waitrose is scheduled to open in in the autumn, while the Welcome Break partnership will be extended to a further four motorway service locations, taking the total to 33 across the UK.

Seven of the 30 refurbishments were completed last month. Previously announced plans including a new full-line supermarket in Chelmsford and a 360,000 sq ft distribution centre in Bristol also remain on track to open this year.

“We are investing in our physical estate to bring the best of Waitrose to more customers in more places,” said Waitrose head of physical estate Alun Jones.

“From new shops and franchise growth to refurbishments across our existing estate, these investments reflect our confidence in the role our shops continue to play in how customers want to shop with us.”

Waitrose currently operates 320 stores as well as its online delivery business.
