Young’s Seafood has expanded its Chip Shop range with a new, giant-sized battered pollock, in a bid to help consumers replicate the takeaway experience at home.
Available from Tesco and other major retailers, the seafood giant’s Jumbo Fish Special (rsp: £5/2x240g fillets), features two pollock fillets coated in the brand’s signature “crispy, bubbly batter”.
The NPD builds on the success of Young’s Jumbo Cod Special – launched in September 2024 – which has delivered £1.4m-worth of retail sales in less than 12 months [NIQ 52 w/e 12 July 2025].
Intended to deliver a “value-packed fakeaway” in a climate of tightening budgets, the new product launch also hopes to draw new consumers into the category.
Some 57% of the sales of Chip Shop’s Jumbo Cod – the fillets of which are twice the size of the brand’s Large Cod Fillets – were incremental, Young’s said.
“We’ve seen incredible appetite for our Jumbo Cod,” said Matthew Wilson, marketing controller at Young’s.
“It’s all about delivering unbeatable taste and value for the ultimate chippy night in.
“We all know fish is a convenient, tasty and lean protein, and Young’s continues to make it easy for families to enjoy, whether it’s a midweek dinner or a weekend fakeaway.”
The launch comes a year after Young’s rebranded its Chip Shop range with a new pack design and a modernised Chip Shop logo, with the aim of convincing even more shoppers to experience ”a proper taste of the chippy”.
