The Nisa Members Association has claimed the board of Nisa-Today's has gone back on an agreement allowing it to act as a "critical friend" to the board.

In a letter to Nisa-Today's members, the NMA which had blocked Nisa's planned merger with Costcutter, said that following a meeting in January with Nisa chief executive Neil Turton, the two parties had become closer and Turton had floated the "critical friend" idea. So it claimed to be surprised by stinging criticism heaped on the NMA, by the Nisa board last month.

It said the NMA's actions "had not added value to the future prosperity of the group and had been largely counter-productive".

Nisa-Today's refused to comment on the latest letter, which NMA secretary and Filco Foods MD Ian Hunt said was disappointing. "The issues of last year are largely gone," he said. "The business is doing very well. I can't see any reason for Nisa's criticism other than retribution for last year."
