Supermarkets have revealed their pre-order pricing of Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console.

The console – which features a tablet-style controller with its own screen – will debut in the UK on 30 November in two versions. The Basic Pack contains a white Wii U console with 8GB of internal storage and a Wii U GamePad. The Premium Pack contains a black, 32GB Wii U console, a Wii U GamePad, a stand for the GamePad and console, a charging cradle for the GamePad, a sensor bar and the Nintendo Land game. Both come with an HDMI video cable and AC adapters for the console and GamePad.

Tesco and Sainsbury’s have since started offering pre-orders at £249 for the Basic version and £299 for the Premium one – undercutting Game by £10. Asda has not yet announced its pre-order pricing.

Revealing the launch details in an online presentation yesterday afternoon, Nintendo Europe president Satoru Shibata said nearly all Wii peripherals would be compatible with the Wii U, adding that the company wanted to avoid existing Wii owners being forced to pay for equipment they already had, such as the Wii U-compatible Wii Remote Plus.

This was the reason the Basic pack did not come with a Wii sensor bars, he said, but for consumers who don’t own a Wii, Nintendo is to roll out a Wii Remote Plus Additional Set containing a Wii Remote Plus controller, Nunchuk and sensor bar.

The company also announced a strong line-up of launch titles including major franchises FIFA 13, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Mass Effect 3.

Other launch titles include Super Mario Bros U, a 2D platform game that can be played using just the GamePad when the TV is in use; and ZombiU, a survival horror first-person shooter that allows players to customise weapons directly on the GamePad.
