John Lewis is expecting to see a ’gifting surge’ up until Christmas Eve

John Lewis has extended the cut-off date for click & collect orders to 23 December, but customers will need to get in quicker for orders collected at Waitrose branches.

Customers will have until 8pm on Saturday to order their items if they are collecting them from a John Lewis branch on Christmas Eve, giving customers an extra day on last year.

But those who want to collect from Waitrose will need to place their orders by tomorrow to get them in time for Christmas.

Last month Waitrose installed self-service check-in screens for click & collect customers across 140 branches to cut back on queues.

The department store chain said it was expecting to see a “gifting surge right up until the last minute” as Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday.

John Lewis operations director Dino Rocos said: “We make very specific commitments to deliver for our customers - and this promise is all the more important at Christmas.

“Our decision to extend click & collect cut-off times this Christmas means that for our customers the stress of Christmas shopping is a thing of the past, allowing them to spend more time with their families and less time chasing parcels.”
