Poundland has announced the launch of an online retail offer in the UK.

The online site, www.poundland.co.uk, will enable customers to order over 2,000 product lines online for a £4 flat delivery fee per order.

The service will have no minimum order value, though orders over £50 will receive free delivery. The £4 flat delivery fee will see customers receive their orders within four to five working days.

Jim McCarthy, Poundland’s chief executive, said: “The online shopping market is a rapidly growing channel and one which could provide a significant potential opportunity for us. This trial is an important first step towards giving more customers access to our amazing value.”

Amongst the 2,000 available products are Poundland’s Jane Asher’s Kitchen and Tommy Walsh’s DIY ranges and its Make Up Gallery cosmetics lines.

Initially the service is available to UK shoppers only.

Poundland joins a number of other fixed price discounters in building an online offering in recent months. Rival Poundworld launched an online business in April 2015 and Poundland founder Steve Smith is backing independent venture Poundshop.com.

Last week Poundland got the regulatory green light from the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority for its £55m purchase of 99p Stores to grow its UK store estate to around 800.
