Rob Gater has been appointed senior national account manager of Merchant Gourmet. He joins from independent coffee roaster Matthew Algie & Co, where he looked after clients including Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury's and Prêt A Manger.

Bakehouse has appointed Fiona Jones as innovations project manager, Tim Wittekind as NPD manager and Caroline Rowe as customer marketing manager. Tom Sparkes has been promoted to product developer, while Steve Britten and Adrian Dodds have both been promoted to senior national account managers.

Coffee company Beyond the Bean has appointed Gary McGann to the newly created role of sales and marketing director. McGann will join Beyond the Bean on 2 February from Espresso Warehouse.

Prepared salads supplier Hazeldene has appointed Simon Hendry technical director. He will be responsible for both Hazeldene and Parripak Foods production.

Jamie Weall has been appointed consultancy services director at consulting company Foodchain Europe. Weall, an advisor in UK and European food labelling and trading law, will be responsible for launching new services to the food industry.

J Wray & Nephew UK has appointed Barnaby Rodgers as brand manager for rum. Rodgers joins from Vermeer Spirits, where he was European sales and marketing manager, and will cover the Appleton Estate range of rums, Wrap & Nephew White Overproof Rum and Koko Kanu.

The Institute of Food Science & Technology has elected 10 new fellows. They include Dr Michele Kellerhaus, director of scientific and regulatory affairs at Coca-Cola EU.

Larry Sweeney, co-founder of voice picking technology company Vocollect, has joined the board of directors of Vocollect Japan. He will be responsible for expanding the company across Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
