Packed with retro desserts and fruit-filled treats, this year’s Scrumptious Summer range from Waitrose will make shoppers “the envy of every picnic blanket in the park”, according to the retailer. Here’s our pick of the new range

Chicken Shawarma King Kebab



Judging by its latest Levantine Table Collection, Middle Eastern flavours are top of the menu for Waitrose this summer. The Chicken Shawarma King Kebab is slow roasted and marinated in yoghurt, garlic, black pepper, cinnamon and chilli, which makes a “simple but tasty’ meal, says the retailer. It’s joined in the range by Mango & Lime Chicken Thigh Kebabs and meat-free Harissa Halloumi Kebabs, both £4.


Caramelised Onion & Ale Beef Burgers



Waitrose hopes to bring the pub to the back garden with these burgers, which combine British beef with caramelised onions and malted ale. 


Ham & Cheese Crustless Quiche



This quiche is crustless, making it a bit lower in calories than the standard quiche lorraine. It’s made with smoked ham, extra mature cheddar and a shortcrust pastry base.

Pork, Chorizo & Manchego Whorls



Whorled for easier bun-stuffing, these Spanish-style seasoned pork sausages are made with chorizo, manchego cheese, tomato and parsley. 


Rhubarb & Custard Trifle



Drawing on the nostalgia trend, this Rhubarb & Custard Trifle layers rhubarb compote, sponge, vanilla custard and cream. It’s joined in the dessert aisle by a tropical Mango & Passionfruit Panna Cotta (£3.50) — a coconut panna cotta topped with mango and passionfruit compote. 


Salted Caramel Banoffee Pie Ice Cream



Another retro favourite reimagined, this banoffee ice cream swirls banana flavoured ice cream with crumble pieces, chunks of banana and a salted caramel ripple. It’s joined in the range by a Summerberry Cheesecake ice cream, which combines a strawberry cheesecake flavoured ice cream with a summerberry ripple and biscuit pieces. 

Raspberry Ripple Eclairs



Pretty-in-pink, delicate choux is double-filled with raspberry crème pâtissière and cream for this special summer eclair. It’s then topped with raspberry fondant and white chocolate. It’s joined in the bakery section with the equally summery Cherry Bakewell Yum Yums – doughnut squares with cherry jam and almond-flavoured icing.  

Strawberries & Cream Shortbread



Even shortbread isn’t safe from a fruity twist in this summer range. Two new flavours will be arriving on shelves: Wimbledon-inspired Strawberries & Cream and fresh Lemon & Lime.
