Ethnic foods specialist Patak’s has joined forces with Red Mill Snack Foods to offer a snacking alternative to crisps.
Patak’s Chapatti Chips are round with a crisp, tortilla-like texture and will be available in three flavours - Mildly Spicy Korma, Medium Spicy Balti and Medium Spicy Tikka.
Made from Indian chapatti flour, Chapatti Chips are aimed at tapping into the UK’s love of Indian food, and will be available in 175g sharing bags with an rsp of £1.19 each.
The newcomers also build on Patak’s existing Mini Pappadums and Spicy Bombay Crackers offerings, also made by Red Mill.
A spokesman said the new products were aimed at buffets, party nibbles and snacking.
The new range will be in Asda from early October and listings have also been secured with Tesco and Morrisons.
Bagged snacks could be a key growth area for Patak’s. According to The Grocer’s last Top Products Survey (December 13 2003), the category topped £2bn for the first time.
