The former MD of Rachel’s Organic is to head up bircher muesli brand Cuckoo as it seeks to expand in the UK.

Neil Burchell, who spent seven years at the helm of the yoghurt and dessert brand and has 20 years’ experience in the food and drink industry, joined the fledgling company earlier this month as a director.

He will be responsible for driving growth in 2015 alongside strategic planning for expansion.

Since Cuckoo’s launch in 2013, its products have secured listings with retailers including Waitrose, Selfridges, Booths, Harvey Nichols and Whole Foods Market.

“2015 marks a fundamental year for Cuckoo’s development and Neil Burchell’s extensive knowledge is indispensable,” Cuckoo co-founder Anna Mackenzie said. “We are delighted that Neil joins us at a time when we are focusing on accelerated growth.”

Cuckoo bircher muesli is made in Britain with home-grown jumbo oats and West Country yoghurt and comprises five variants: Mango & Coconut, apple & Cinnamon Spice, Elderflower & Cranberry, Choco Sour Cherry, and Apricot & Madagascan Vanilla, with a tangy raspberry compote.
