Guus Dekkers, Tesco’s new CTO

Tesco has landed former Airbus IT boss Guus Dekkers as its new chief technology officer.

Dekkers will take over from Edmond Mesrobian, who is retiring from the supermarket giant having held the role for the past three years.

Dekkers has previously worked at various global companies including Volkswagen, Johnson Controls Automotive Group, Siemens, Continental AG and, most recently, as chief information officer at the famous aircraft manufacturer.

Tesco CEO Dave Lewis was forced to look for a new tech boss after former Expedia chief technology officer Mesrobian decided to return to the US.

Lewis said Dekkers had the perfect experience to take over from Mesrobian at a “transformational” time for Tesco’s technology platforms.

“He brings extremely strong expertise in driving large-scale IT transformations, which will help us build on the progress we’ve been making to transform our business over the last three years,” said Lewis.

Dekkers said: “I hope my experience in large scale IT transformations, advanced information technologies, business process optimisations and digital innovations will allow me to support Tesco in translating rapidly evolving technological and digital capabilities into innovative solutions.”

Mesrobian added: “It has been a privilege to be a member of Tesco’s leadership team and to lead the technology organisation over the past three years during Tesco’s turnaround.”
