Julian Moss, founder, Aussie Spirits, on eating scorpions, embalming and James Bond


What was your first ever job? Newspaper delivery boy. Describe your career to date. Prior to Aussie Spirits I built and sold three companies. Then I decided to jump on a tricycle and take on the Formula 1 of the industry to make a difference.

How do you describe your job to your mates? The best job in the world. I meet wonderful people, visit great bars, sponsor remarkable events and I never run out of great Aussie spirit products.

What is the worst job you've ever had? Embalming bodies at a funeral parlour. Seriously.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Meeting people and seeing the look on their faces when they try the Aussie Spirits brands.

Which drinks industry figure do you most admire? Dr Vijay Mallya of United Breweries Group and Whyte & Mackay fame.

What is the least rewarding part? You never have enough time in the day to get your message across.

If you didn't work in grocery where would you work? I would be a magician.

What's your best interview tip? Send a friend who is not looking for a job into the interview you so you get an idea of what questions they are asking.

If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? A better trolley with which to drag the Aussie Spirits range to meetings.

What is your motto in life? Take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you had, learn from your mistakes... but never regret, people change, things go wrong. Always remember life goes on.

What's your nickname? Stirling.

What was the first single you bought? David Bowie's Rebel Rebel.

What did you want to be as a child? A vet.

What's your favourite movie and why? I love the 007 films. They are action-packed, sexy, I never get bored of them and Bond loves a Martini.

What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? A moment in Bangkok, which I can't share with your readers.

If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why? The Queen - the most recognised person in the world. She could open up many doors.

What's the weirdest thing you've eaten? Scorpions in Thailand.

What animal best reflects your personality and why? A dolphin, because I am playful, friendly, ambitious, fast and social.
