Headshot - Katharine high res

Name: Katharine Goodchild

Job title: General manager for Northwest Europe

Company: Edgewell Personal Care

What was your first job? My first job was on an archaeological dig at the site of a medieval farmhouse. It was very hands-on, uncovering fragments of daily life from centuries ago.

What’s been your worst job interview? I worked on private yachts for a while. Back then, the interviews for yacht jobs were incredibly intense and sometimes outrageous in terms of the expectations and job descriptions they gave you.

What was the first music single you bought? Girls Just Want to Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper. Still a classic!

“Between balancing work and home life with my twin girls, I sometimes wish I really did have eight arms!”

How do you describe your job to your friends? I always describe it as a real privilege. Different every day, unique environments, meeting people from all around the world, working on incredible brands, with a team that really owns it together.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? The opportunity to embed a people-first culture – one that is progressive, challenging, inclusive and fun.

What is the least rewarding part? The least rewarding part is dealing with endless tracking systems and having meetings about meetings. It’s all just part of the day job.

What is your motto in life? ‘Well done is better than well said’ – Benjamin Franklin.

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? No wI-fI once a week – allowing teammates to properly connect in person instead of behind a keyboard!

Do you have any phobias? Embarrassingly, it’s pigeons flying towards me… Trafalgar Square is not my favourite place!

If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? I’d accelerate progress on packaging and waste reduction. I believe it’s time for some bold moves in this space.

What luxury would you have on a desert island? A fully stocked skincare fridge.

What animal most reflects your personality? An octopus. Between balancing work and home life with my twin girls, I sometimes wish I really did have eight arms!
