Gill Foden Operations Director Highland Spring Group

Name: Gill Foden

Job title: Operations director

Company: Highland Spring Group

What was your first job? My first role was as a process engineer with BP, which gave me a fantastic grounding in both technical problem-solving and how large, complex organisations operate.

It taught me early on the importance of discipline, safety, and continuous improvement, and it really shaped my approach to challenges throughout my career.

“There’s a real opportunity to make it easier for people to choose nutritious options”

How do you describe your job to your friends? I usually say that my job is about maximising the potential of both people and processes. At its core, it’s about bringing out the very best in teams, removing barriers, and ensuring systems and ways of working are as effective and efficient as they can be.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Without a doubt, working with a great team and celebrating shared successes.

Highland Spring Flavours Range

What is the least rewarding part? Honestly, it’s hard to pinpoint one as even challenges tend to come with learning or opportunities to improve, so they need to be seen as part of the bigger picture.

What is your motto in life? “Over, around and through.” For me, it’s about always finding a way forward and having that growth mindset.

Do you have any phobias? No, not really. I tend to approach most things with curiosity rather than fear, which helps me stay open to new experiences and challenges.

If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? I’d love to make healthy choices more accessible and affordable for everyone. There’s a real opportunity to make it easier for people to choose nutritious options which could have a positive impact on the nation’s health.

What luxury would you have on a desert island? Lots of books!

What’s your favourite film and why? Miss Congeniality is my favourite film because it was the first film I went to see on a cinema date with my husband.

Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? Amal Clooney, for her inspirational human rights work and the powerful way she uses her platform for meaningful impact.

What would your death row meal be? It would have to be steak and salad – with a Highland Spring sparkling water to wash it down with!
