Nicky Veysey Little Dish

Name: Nicky Veysey

Job title: Head of brand

Company: Little Dish

What was your first job? Manning the till after school in my dad’s village grocery store in Devon in the eighties. I met unforgettable characters there, and it sparked my curiosity about people.

What’s been your worst job interview? I haven’t really had a terrible job interview, but my worst work assignment was being asked to have my hair cut into a mushroom shape to showcase a new volumising shampoo… then having to model the look in front of a room full of journalists!

“It’s tough for parents right now and mealtime overwhelm is a real thing”

What was the first music single you bought? Especially for You, Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.

How do you describe your job to your friends? Coming up with fun and original ways to tell burnt out parents and guardians that Little Dish kids’ meals are a lifesaver on busy weeknights. And, crucially, doing it in a way that makes them smile, nod and think ‘ah, that’s so true’.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Knowing I’m helping make busy parents’ lives that little bit easier by giving them back some precious time to spend with their kids or to catch up on the never-ending life admin. It’s tough for parents right now and mealtime overwhelm is a real thing.

What is the least rewarding part? I’m not a fan of an Excel spreadsheet – I’m all about big ideas, compelling stories, and the right words and visuals to bring them to life.

Little Dish Superstars

What is your motto in life? Fortune favours the bold.

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? A week off every year to write, tucked away in a wooden cabin on the south Devon coast. I have a TV show I’m trying to finish.

Do you have any phobias? I’m not sure this is a phobia, but I’m not keen on sharing ice creams or lollies, with anyone!

If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? To be able to do more fun and playful things in the supermarket aisles to fill kids with joy and make the weekly shop less of a chore for parents.

What luxury would you have on a desert island? It would have to be video calls with my kids to keep me smiling.

What animal most reflects your personality? A dolphin because I’m curious, playful, a little rebellious and feel most at home in the ocean.

What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? See mushroom haircut story above.

What’s your favourite film and why? This is a hard one because I’m a huge film fan, but Rust and Bone is a movie I’ve never forgotten. Heartbreaking and life-affirming, two things all epic films should be.

Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? Queen Jessie Buckley, of course. I love everything about her – her dazzling talent, kindness, honesty, authenticity… need I go on?

What would your death row meal be? Roast chicken, crispy garlic & rosemary potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a proper good gravy.
