Lucy Provan Fearne Rosie

Name: Lucy Provan

Age: 24

Job title: Sales & marketing executive

Company & location: Fearne & Rosie, Yorkshire

Education: Fashion Communication at Northumbria University

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I always wanted to do something creative, and I was set on being an interior designer for a long time.

Why did you decide to go for a career in food & drink? I love the idea that food is essential, but there are different decisions we make when choosing the food we do.

At university I also worked in supermarkets part-time and my interest in the industry started here. I loved the sales and marketing side of my degree and would often take food as an inspiration in my work. I found myself applying for a job at Fearne & Rosie because I felt like it was perfect for me – and I was right!

“Always aim to work for and with brands that align with your personal values because this is where you will shine the most”

Explain your job to us in a sentence (or two): I am involved in lots of different projects, big and small. I drive engagement on socials and work with our brand ambassadors, organise new product launches, create positive interactions with our customers, and attend/organise trade shows and events. I also have opportunities to be really creative and have lots of fun.

What does a typical day look like for you? I do something new every single day – every day is a little bit different, which I love.

Tell us about how you went about applying for your job: I started with a very casual catch-up with our sales director, which was really lovely as it took the edge off the interview process.

I then had a second interview with our founder Rachel where we discussed my suitability for the role and future ambitions. I had to think of a jam-based joke, which was very fun and set the tone for my new role perfectly.

What’s the best part about working for a food & drink company? My favourite part about working in this industry is the people.

Not only are team Fearne & Rosie the kindest people I have met, but every person I have come across are the nicest, friendliest people! I love working and collaborating with different brands, and being new to the industry is much less daunting when everyone is so friendly.

And what’s the biggest misconception people have about working in food & drink? I think it is that all brands are in competition with each other. Especially working in a startup, we all support each other, celebrate everyone’s wins, and help each other as much as we can. A win for one brand can also be a huge win for another.

What advice would you give to other young people looking to get into the food & drink industry? Take every little opportunity you can, meet as many people in the industry as possible, and always aim to work for and with brands that align with your personal values because this is where you will shine the most.

What’s your ultimate career dream? My dream is to be a creative director one day.
