Name: Will Havercroft
Age: 29
Job title: Brand & national account manager
Company & location: Bio&Me, Chester
Education: Marketing at University of Liverpool
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? All throughout school, I wanted to be a vet. I’ve always been a huge animal lover and thought there’d be nothing better than spending all day with them.
Why did you decide to go for a career in food & drink? It was actually the role that brought me into the food and drink world. I was looking for a marketing position that offered a bit of everything, and when I joined Bio&Me, that’s exactly what I got – a challenger brand where you’re encouraged to get stuck into all aspects of marketing.
The fact it happened to be within such an exciting and evolving category such as gut health was an unexpected bonus!
“When you care about the impact your brand has, that passion really shines through in your work”
Explain your job to us in a sentence (or two): My role is split between brand management and national account management. On the brand side, I look after our website, social channels, email marketing, and sampling events. On the commercial side, I manage our relationship with Ocado across the ambient, free-from, and chilled categories that Bio&Me operates in.
What does a typical day look like for you? As most people in the fmcg challenger space would say, there’s rarely a “typical” day! Take this week, for example: on Monday I was scheduling our email marketing and finalising plans for an upcoming Ocado brand day. By Tuesday, I was in a studio, working with a photographer on finalising imagery for our next billboard campaign. It’s an ever-changing environment that definitely keeps you on your toes, and that’s what I love about it.
Tell us how you went about applying for your job: I first came across Bio&Me through a LinkedIn post from Jon, our CEO and co-founder, celebrating an award win. At the time, I was on the lookout for a general marketing role and noticed Bio&Me was hiring for a marketing executive. I applied and also directly messaged Jon and Michael (our marketing director) to express my interest.

After a virtual and in-person interview, I made it to the final stage, where I chatted with Bio&Me co-founder Dr Megan Rossi, aka the Gut Health Doctor. I always over-prepare for interviews, so there weren’t many tough questions as such, though one did catch me out: “What was your favourite module at university?” Having graduated over a year earlier and been travelling since, I honestly couldn’t remember most of them!
What’s the best part about working for a food & drink company? It’s the people and the passion that make the food and drink industry so exciting. And at Bio&Me it’s even more rewarding, working with a brilliantly small but agile team, and knowing that what we do helps people feel their best by taking care of their gut health.
And what’s the biggest misconception people have about working in food & drink? People often think working in food and drink equals taste tests and getting to be creative all the time, but it’s much more complex than that.
Especially working in the gut health space, it’s about education, science, and credibility, ensuring consumers genuinely understand the benefits of what we’re offering versus competitors.

What advice would you give to other young people looking to get into the food & drink industry? Work for brands that align with your values. The food and drink industry is fast-paced and competitive, so it’s important to believe in the mission behind what you’re doing. When you care about the impact your brand has, that passion really shines through in your work.
What’s your ultimate career dream? I’d love to build a business myself one day, one that reflects my values and helps people in a meaningful way. Working at Bio&Me has taught me that when a brand has a clear mission and strong purpose it can genuinely change how people think and feel. That’s exactly the kind of work I want to keep doing.
