What was your first job? Detasseling – walking through corn fields in my home state of Iowa, manually removing the top part of the stalks – hot and sticky!
What’s been your worst job interview? Trying (and failing, I’m a horrible liar!) to persuade a recruiter that I really wanted the job they were representing.
What was the first music single you bought? I remember being very attached to my Whitesnake, Here I Go Again cassette.

How do you describe your job to your friends? We’ve built a free app called Olio. Businesses can sell or donate surplus food, while individuals can give/take/buy/sell/lend/borrow just about anything.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Hearing the positive, heartfelt testimonials from app users whose lives have been improved because of Olio.
What is the least rewarding part? Knowing we could do so much more, if only we could get more retailers, caterers etc to donate their unsold/unserved food.
What is your motto in life? Good things are worth fighting for.
If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? The ability to control the weather.
Do you have any phobias? Absolutely petrified of cockroaches!
If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? Industry commitment to surfacing yellow sticker discounts – ideally through Olio’s reduced food section – helping people to save food and money.
What luxury would you have on a desert island? A sleeping pod with a good mattress and temperature control so I could sleep comfortably knowing I was safe.
What animal most reflects your personality? A colourful, chatty high-energy bird, like a macaw.
What’s your favourite film and why? I love all the Mission Impossible films, the jaw-dropping action and stunts blow my mind.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? Still traumatised by the groin injury I sustained when I missed the beam attempting an aerial during a gymnastics tournament as a child.
Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? Anyone with integrity and millions of followers, we need as many people as possible to sign up to Olio to share more and waste less!
What would your death row meal be? Nachos – veggie, fully loaded, and a cold pint of lager.
