A good naan should be crisp on the outside, soft inside, and pleasantly yet subtly seasoned. Sainsbury's (one star) tried a different approach, with a soggy and artificial offering. It didn't work.

The Morrisons (two stars) effort was slightly better. Though still damp, the bread had a pleasant, slightly spiced, taste.

Waitrose
(three stars) concentrated on looks with an appetising naan, but its great appearance and crisp texture was let down by its blandness. Tesco's (three stars) bread had a similar failing. Its decent texture couldn't make up for its lack of taste.

Asda's (four stars) bread won the day. Though a little too floury, this naan was well-seasoned, had great dough and crisped up nicely.
