Breakfast brand Fuel10K has achieved its aim to donate 25 tonnes of porridge to FareShare through its ‘Buy One to Give One’ push, it has announced.

The fast-growing supplier pledged to match the sale of its oat pots across February with 50g portions of porridge, with the aim of donating half a million breakfasts to FareShare.

The brand has now confirmed it has reached its target – the equivalent of 25 tonnes of porridge – having handed 314,992 porridge portions in 2021 to the food redistribution charity.

Fuel10K was “absolutely thrilled with the continued success of Buy One to Give One” said MD Scott Chassels. “It gives us immense pride to be in a position to honour this commitment to such a deserving organisation.”

It comes after Tesco pledged earlier this month to make a 2p donation to FareShare for every fresh fruit & veg sale, with the aim of supporting the thousands of children living in food insecurity. A similar campaign in summer 2021 saw the charity receive the equivalent of more than three million meals’ worth of food.

This week, FareShare revealed that 90% of its beneficiary organisations – including charities and community groups – were having their work affected by the cost of living crisis.

“FareShare says it doesn’t have enough food to support the growing need,” the BBC reported today. “It is now launching a campaign to secure more donations from across the food industry to try to keep up with demand.”
