Sainsbury's has been hit by shortages in the supply of own-label canned sweetcorn as a result of floods in Thailand in March.
The news comes six weeks after The Grocer reported that sweetcorn prices were likely to rise as events around the globe squeezed supplies.
One fan of Sainsbury's on Facebook complained last week that Sainsbury's Wigston store was not stocking own-label canned sweetcorn. "It's all Green Giant. This store is used by many pensioners who cannot afford branded goods," she wrote. Another added that Sainsbury's Hedge End Southampton store did not have stocks either.
A Sainsbury's spokeswoman confirmed supplies had been hit by floods in Thailand, saying the retailer had increased its supply of branded produce to fill the gap. Basics sweetcorn returned to stores last week and standard range sweetcorn would return in two to three weeks, she added.
