Symbol group Select & Save is taking on Bargain Booze with a new marketing campaign claiming to beat the off-licence chain on price. The convenience store operator has added the strap­line 'Better bargains than Bargain Booze' to its consumer leaflets, which already promise shoppers: 'You're better off here than Tesco.' Select and Save said it wanted to show it could compete with the biggest players in the local off-licensing ­sector. The move comes just a month after Bargain Booze unveiled its new convenience store fascia, Bargain Booze Select Convenience. This followed a joint fascia trial between Bargain Booze and Select & Save last year. The trial, which was named Bargain Booze at ­Select & Save, was launched at one store last September but was discontinued before Christmas.
