This Saturday afternoon shop saw Sainsbury’s win for the second week running, thanks to strong availability (just two products not stocked) and a perfect score for shop floor service, despite a low staff presence at its Sherborne store. An apology was even made for the four-minute queue.

Roadworks caused congestion into Tesco Broadstairs and parking was limited. The entrance had an open feel and displays were attractive. Tooth whitening was being carried out alongside sampling of Bertolli butter on slices of bread. Staff were knowledgeable about products and never far away.

At Asda Cardiff, a person in a bunny costume was doing fundraising for charity. The fruit & veg section was generally well stocked. Staff were “polite and helpful” but didn’t check the stockroom for missing items.

The car park at Waitrose Headington was council-run so there weren’t any trolley parks. Entry was crowded. There was lots of debris in the fruit & veg section, alongside restocking trolleys causing disruption. Interaction with staff was “good” but there was a long checkout queue. The peppermint tea was charged at the wrong price.

Morrisons Bishop Auckland was quiet for a Saturday afternoon and looked “tired like it needed a refurb”. The fridges looked scruffy and inside items were scattered all over, with signage just reading ‘frozen food’ instead of displaying categories. Sampling was taking place of rice dishes, but the display was said to look average. At the checkout there was a very long queue but the assistant was friendly.
