sainsbury's sheffield tim morris

Congratulations on a great score of 91 and a full basket! Thanks - I’ve been here for seven months and the store has been going well. This result is the icing on the cake.

How do you maintain strong availability? It may sound dull but we do the basics really well. We have great processes in place to make sure we are well-stocked and are very strong at investigating why a product might be missing and our forecasting in general.

How have you been developing customer service? We review customer service both individually and collectively. I think our customer service reviews are inspiring for the team and ensures everyone is aware of its importance.

How did your store do over the festive period? We had a brilliant Christmas - we absolutely destroyed our budget figures. Sales were 20% up on budget. We were also very clean coming out of Christmas in terms of selling through our festive stock.

So what is new in-store since Christmas? On the first day we had the Cadbury Creme Eggs and hot cross buns come in, which are doing well. As it’s the new year, people also want to get healthy and our Be Good to Yourself range has been selling really well. We also revamped our Chinese ready meal range ahead of Chinese New Year and our Valentine’s range comes in properly this week so we will have plenty to offer more romantic shoppers.

Yours is one of Sainsbury’s biggest stores - have you had new layout for non-food and clothing yet? We are still waiting for the new look but the current layout, introduced in October 2014, is still working well for us. Our non-food and clothing sales are up around 20% on last year.

And how are shoppers reacting to your recent clearer promotional strategy? Great. I often hear customers talking about how cheap our prices are - and we have a lot of competition locally.
