Tesco is working on a range of Tesco Express shop fronts to make stores blend in with their locations.

The retailer said there would be a contemporary design for urban city Express stores, using modern architecture, open glazing and simple Tesco branding. A more traditional look is being developed for sites such as Old Brompton Road and the Strand.

The new Tesco Express logo will be white with a dark blue background, replacing the previous red and blue colours.

The updated fascias have been partly inspired by customer feedback.

Colin Holmes, chief executive of Tesco Express, said: "Customers want our shops to blend in with their neighbourhoods, so we've developed fronts that will enable us to be more flexible."

Graham Tytherleigh, the architect working for Aukett Tytherleigh on the designs, said the previous fascia used colours that were too loud.
