Tesco has announced a deal with Currys PC World to offer a tailored range of products in its Extra stores

Tesco is to launch concessions of Currys PC World in its latest move to make use of excess space in its Extra format.

The retailer has signed a new partnership with owner Dixons Carphone, which will see two concessions opening within Tesco Extra stores this summer, with a likelihood of more following if the trial is a success.

The first store is scheduled to open in July at Tesco’s Milton Keynes Extra, followed by a second concession at its Weston Favell Extra store in Northampton in August.

The concessions will offer a tailored range of Currys PC World products including televisions, computers, white goods and accessories.

They will also offer laptop repairs, advice and comparison services - allowing customers to explore switching broadband and energy supply.

It is the latest move by Tesco to repurpose excess space in its hypermarkets, with the retailer having already started shifting away from selling products such as televisions and computer equipment in its own GM lineup because of the march of online shopping.

In October 2015 it signed a deal with Arcadia to open versions of its Dorothy Perkins, Burtons and Evans stores.

Last summer it agreed a similar deal with Holland & Barrett, which is running a health and wellbeing ‘store in a store’ format in a number of Tesco stores across the UK.

“We’re always looking at ways to offer our customers the best possible range of services in our stores. We think this is a winning combination for customers and look forward to opening the first outlet in our Milton Keynes store in July,” said Tesco UK CEO Matt Davies.

Dixons Carphone UK&I CEO Katie Bickerstaffe said: “Customers tell us they want to pick up the latest electrical products conveniently and at competitive prices, with expert advice and from someone they trust to keep them working seamlessly. This trial gives them all of this during a weekly grocery shop, which we hope they will enjoy.”
