Consumer’s verdict

June Smith, chartered accountant, 35, Haywards Heath

A combination of the well known brand name, Jacob's Creek, and the ‘pink Champagne’ look of the bottle left me eager to try this new sparkling rosé.

The wine is a gorgeous pale pink colour with fine beads of long-lasting bubbles. It has a pleasant, easy drinking style and is ideal to serve chilled on a hot summer’s day.

However, overall it was a tad too dry for my palate, and the effervescent bubbles do tend to overwhelm the delicate citrus, strawberry and red berry flavours.

At £7.99 it is slightly overpriced, given the high quality of other premium sparkling rosé wines coming onto the market.

Score: 16/25

Complementing the already established Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir, Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Rosé is launching into two of the growth areas of the wine market - sparkling and rosé.

This Australian wine is an easy, elegant wine, which is soft and round. It combines the lemon citrus flavours of Chardonnay with the strawberry and redcurrant characteristics of the Pinot Noir.

The newcomer is ideal for most occasions and will no doubt be supported with national above-the-line and PR campaigns. As such, it will obtain wide retail distribution.
