tesco store

Tesco Shoreham-by-Sea triumphed in this week’s G33 with its attractive and well laid-out store. Assistant Yasmin was offering samples of spicy potato wedges, and other staff were helpful and provided assistance in finding products. It was also the only store to score points for availability this week.

It was exceptionally busy at Asda Carlisle, but surprisingly there wasn’t a queue into the car park. Staff went to look in the warehouse for products that weren’t on shelves. One trolley causing obstruction was the only minor quibble and, had availability been better, the store could have won.

Car park signage at Sainsbury’s Garthdee could have been clearer, and shelves were bare in the fruit & veg section. Some products were in the wrong place, and a number of trolleys were causing congestion. However, staff scored highly for service and checkout.

Morrisons Sutton looked “tired and old.” There were a number of gaps on the shelves, with numerous restocking trolleys around the store. Staff were neat and tidy but customer service was only “average.” However, there was no queue at the checkout and the assistant was “very friendly.”

Waitrose scored just 33 this week. Its Walton-le-Dale store was clean but untidy and hard to navigate as there were empty containers on the floor. There were few staff around, and when assistance was required four team members were chatting at the customer service desk. There was no queue at checkout, but the assistant didn’t greet our shopper and took a long time to scan.
