New pharmacy opening hour regulations by the Government may exclude many supermarkets.
The ruling, announced yesterday, allows new dispensing licenses to be issued automatically to primary care centres, pharmacies located in out-of-town shopping centres over 15,000 sq m, some internet or mail-order pharmacies and ones that commit to opening more than 100—hours a week.

Supermarkets attached to shopping centres would benefit from this ruling but many others would be unable to meet the 100-hour per week opening requirements, particularly as Sunday opening hours are restricted to six hours.
