Davis, who has been combining responsibility for Europe with his position as UK convenience trading director, flagged up plans to implement a more pan-European strategy following his promotion last week.
In his new role, he will oversee BP's convenience retail sector across 10 EU countries, leading the drive to improve sales and markets and examining how different countries can learn from each other.
"There will be opportunities to standardise the offer, but it's not a case of one size fits all," he said. "There are lots of varying challenges from the separate countries, with many different brands, store sizes and ownership models."
Davis will be based in the UK but plans to spend about three days a week in other EU countries in a bid to expand his knowledge of the petrol giant's offering across Europe.
He joined BP in 2003 after 13 years at Alldays, where he was director of buying for a network of more than 600 c-stores.
During the past few years he has played a key role in driving UK store profitability and setting up the partnership with M&S to bring the Simply Food offer into BP Connect stores.
"We will be launching a refresh programme of the stores in our UK Connect estate that won't be incorporating the Simply Food offer and have a number of other exciting initiatives lined up," said Davis.
