The drinks industry's Drinkaware campaign will not be forced to operate under the Change4Life initiative, parliamentary under secretary of state for public health Anne Milton has confirmed.

The minister told The Grocer there was "no question of this happening" after concerns were raised that bringing alcohol under the Change4Life initiative could undermine the £100m campaign.

"We do not want any duplication. A lot of the industry is nervous, not least because we have said public health is a priority.

"We will publish a health White Paper in the autumn and have a conversation with the drinks and retail industries on how we can work together."

Concerns were raised last week after the minister confirmed that the next stage for Change4Life was to become a "social movement", which would incorporate the alcohol industry.
