Regardless of recent high profile steps to encourage healthy eating, young managers polled for our Reader Panel still believe the food industry has much still to do to tackle the obesity issue.
A huge 83% of those polled believe the industry has to go further if it is to allay public and government concerns.
This is despite 74% of the young managers claiming that their company has recently introduced new healthier products, products with reduced salt and sugar levels or clearer labelling. But as for the much-vaunted joined up approach from the industry, government, advertisers and health groups, only 43% of respondents have witnessed such efforts.
Only 60% said continued self-regulation of the food industry was the best way forward with 26% saying this was not the best way to achieve progress.
The strong feeling was that stricter regulations from government were inevitable, with 72% believing this was the most likely outcome.
