Prinz Gourmetline of Bressanone, Italy won six out of seven prizes in the third annual Seafood Prix d'Elite new products competition at the European Seafood Exposition in Brussels.
Octopus Carpaccio received awards for best new retail product and best new foodservice product. The gourmet quality product features thinly sliced octopus seasoned with vinegar and spices. It is ready-to-serve and has a 21-day shelf life under refrigeration.
It was also awarded most original product, most convenient product, healthiest product, and best retail packaging.
The judges cited the product's unique approach in all aspects, including the convenience of the sausage-shaped foodservice pack, which when cut produces a round slice with octopus cross sections.
Pieter Visbedrijf of Brugge, Belgium was the other Seafood Prix d'Elite award winner, taking the new prize for Best Seafood Product Line for Tartes Feuilletées line of seafood tarts featuring individual puff pastries topped with marinated fish on a bed of vegetables.
The flavors include Flemish-style, with lemon-marinated salmon slices on a bed of leek; and Provençale, with cod slices on a bed of rataouille. The product is completely prepared and ready to cook.
