Imperial Tobacco has promoted corporate development director Alison Cooper to the new role of chief operating officer. Cooper, who joined Imperial Tobacco in 1999, will be responsible for all sales and marketing, manufacturing and cigar business activities.

John Wall, finance director at Thorntons since December 2004, is to step down on 30 January next year. A search for his successor is to start soon.

Diageo has named Richard Bee finance director for its Scottish operations. Bee is currently senior vice president of financial, planning and reporting for Diageo North America.

Terry Archer is the new national account manager for Panda Licorice. He has 10 years’ experience at national account level dealing with retail, wholesale and cash & carry sectors and joins the company from Sun Valley.

Christopher Sturman is the new CEO of the Food Storage & Distribution Federation. He has held several supply chain roles including managing director of West Kent Cold Storage and CEO of LinQ Alliance.

Eblex and Bpex have appointed two agents: Sonia Palomo for Spain and Susanne Müllem for Germany. Both have a meat industry background and will be working in the roles on a part-time basis.

Patricia Czerniak, joint MD of Food from Britain Germany, is leaving the company on 31 March. Joint MD Roy Edleston will take up the role of sole MD for the foreseeable future.

Two executives at Google have joined the boards of major grocery companies as non-executive directors. John Herlihy, vice president of online sales and operations for Europe, Middle East and Africa, has joined the Greencore board, while Shona Brown, senior vice president for business operations, has joined the PepsiCo board.

Bakery ingredients company Puratos UK has appointed Kevin Binns as innovation director. Binns, who was previously innovation director for Memory Lane Cakes, will be responsible for all aspects of product development and process technologies, as well as managing the Puratos UK innovation team.
