Seafish has appointed Dr Paul Williams as interim chief executive.

Williams, who joined the seafood authority in 2004 as research director, will take over the reins from October.

The selection process for a permanent head began last December but stalled when the body lost a challenge in the Court of Appeal over levies on fish imports. Seafish is now set for a Supreme Court showdown in its battle to retain the levy.

Its current chief executive, John Rutherford, is to retire in September but will continue to assist the body in its ongoing legal battle.

In June Seafish named John Whitehead as its interim chairman, stepping in for Charles Howeson, who spent three years in the role.
