Boots has announced a major restructuring of its management team in order to focus on its core health and beauty markets.
Increasing pressure from supermarkets keen to expand into the health and beauty, and a drop in full-year profits have forced Boots to defend its market share.
In the reshuffle, chief commercial officer David Kneale leaves at the end of next month. His role will be split between acting retail director Alex Gourlay and commercial director of lifestyle Ian Filby.
Gourlay has been promoted to the newly created position of healthcare and store director.
He will take responsibility for the healthcare business unit, including pharmacy and opticians, store development and property.
Filby will take up the new role of director of beauty & lifestyle businesses, where he will lead the Only at Boots and Boots for Value programmes and take responsibility for marketing.
He joined in 1981 and has held numerous buying roles.
