Kwik Save in Cranhill, Glasgow, impressed immediately with its clean, fresh and bright entrance area. The store was well laid out and the aisles were free of packing crates.
Kwik Save provided 29 of The Grocer 33’s list for £38.25. The nominal cost of a full basket was £43.21 - cheaper than two retailers on this week’s main survey.
Loose new potatoes, own label fresh penne pasta, six large free range eggs and Persil Tablets in a 24-pack were not stocked. However, Kwik Save did sell Persil Tablets in 18s for £2.25, six medium free range eggs for 75p and 454g of prepacked new potatoes for 49p.
A number of offers were on display for Burns Night and the Chinese New Year, as well as plenty of promotions for grocery and homewares. The ‘Oven Fresh’ carryout food section was busy with customers drawn by the aromas of cooked bacon, sausages and soup. The butchery and fruit and veg sections were run as concessions by WW Wales of Kilmarnock and Fresh and Local respectively.
When we visited Kwik Save in Stockport last August, carrier bags were 1p each; at Cranhill they were free.
