Northern Bloc, the Leeds ice cream brand, has made its grocery debut in 83 Co-op stores.

Branches across the North of England are selling its 500ml tubs (rsp: £4.50) in three variants: Chocolate & Sea Salt, Ginger Caramel, and Hazelnut with Tonka Bean.

The brand’s products were previously available only in Northern attractions including Bolton Abbey Estate, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Leeds Grand Theatre, and West Yorkshire Playhouse.

The North was a “melting pot of innovation”, said Dirk Mischendahl, director of Northern Bloc. It had inspired the brand, which launched in 2015, “to create indulgent, cutting-edge flavours that pay homage to the traditional, while adding a fresh modern twist”, he added.

Caroline Thompson, Co-op’s senior buyer for frozen, added: “Northern Bloc is a really exciting new urban ice cream brand that is fanatical about creating decadent and delicious desserts that people can enjoy all year round. Made in the heart of Yorkshire, we’re confident our customers right across the North are going to enjoy it.”

Last month, Northern Bloc unveiled Little Bloc, a children’s ice cream range containing no refined sugar.
