You were on holiday last week - are you pleased with how well the store did in your absence? I’m delighted with the result and it’s all down to the great efforts of the team. I’m particularly pleased we performed so well on a Saturday evening, which is such a busy time. It’s all very well giving the first customers of the day a store that looks great, but maintaining that and keeping on top of availability is the real challenge.

The store was converted to Morrisons’ fresh format in May. How has your performance been since? The customers love it and we have had lots of positive feedback. By taking the walls down and putting all of our craft skills on display, it has really showcased what we do and sales have been great. Fresh fish in particular is selling exceptionally well.

Morrisons has kicked off some new promotions. How are they going down? Customers absolutely love them and they are definitely attracting new customers to the store. It’s worked really well as they come in for the deals but then we get to show them everything else Morrisons has to offer. They have generated a lot of excitement and it can be a challenge meeting demand, but overall they have been very successful.

Some of the deals have been for Christmas favourites. Is that your focus now? Absolutely. When I came back from holiday the store was starting to feel a lot more festive. Our bakers are baking up stollen and panettone at the moment and much more of the range will be coming on board in the next few weeks - there’s a great buzz at this time of year.

Morrisons’ new festive TV ad hits screens last week. What do you think? It’s great. The feedback we are getting from customers has all been very positive. Christmas is such a big job for us all, I’ll be looking forward to putting my feet up on Christmas Eve and having a nice Christmas lunch with the family.
