Waitrose is claiming to be the only British supermarket to list Chinese and Brazilian wines.

The retailer, which last year launched two Indian wines, is this month rolling out Changyu Cabernet Gernischt (rsp: £9.99), from one of China’s oldest and largest wine producers, and Brazilian Miolo Cuvee Tradition Brut Rose NV (rsp: £11.99).

Waitrose said it hoped the launches would encourage a greater number of lesser-known wines to come to market in the UK as interest in the Chinese wine industry grew.

“Waitrose is proud to be leading the way for Chinese and Brazilian wine to grow in popularity in Britain,” said wine buyer Katie Mollet.
