Consumers have voted an Aldi premium ice cream as the best frozen food product of the year in the retail sector.
Milfina Temptations premium honeycomb crunch ice cream, made for Aldi by Richmond Foods, also won the category for best new ice cream product in the British Frozen Food Federation's 2002 awards.
The BFFF's retail awards are decided by panels of consumers who mark products in a host of criteria ranging from taste to value for money.
BFFF director general Alf Carr said: "Today's consumers are the best judges of all." And he said the Milfina ice cream which retails for £1.69 for a half litre tub had proved to be a "tempting product at a tempting price".
Richmond's ice cream beat off competition from eight other category winning products to win the top accolade.
The other categories were won by: Coldwater Seafood, Freshpack (which won two categories), Giles Foods, Sainsbury, Schwan's Consumer Brands UK, Somerfield and Tryton Foods.
Richmond's success meant it was a double whammy for ice cream producers with top prize in the catering sector going to Schí¹²í¼¥r Ice Cream for its Míºšíµ®pick mango creme fraiche.
