Bolton funnyman Peter Kay is returning to TV screens next month in a new ad campaign for John Smith’s.

Heineken UK announced it had re-signed Kay to star in three new ads for its ale brand at the John Smith’s Grand National at Aintree this weekend, where the comedian presented the trophy to the race winner.

Kay was a mainstay of John Smith’s ads from 2002 to 2005 and coined catchphrases “‘Ave it!” and “Top bombing”.

“We are living through some of the toughest times that anyone can remember," said Gareth Turner, senior brand manager for John Smith’s.

"There has never been a better time to champion a return to the values of ‘no nonsense’ straight-talking and we know Peter Kay is the perfect man for the job.”
