Booker is hailing the launch of its Euro Shopper economy range as a success after hitting the £2m sales mark in just two months.

The range, which was launched in July, consists of 30 products such as Jaffa Cakes, tea bags and coffee. It has been so well received, said the wholesaler, that it would be rolling out more products under the brand.

It initially trialled the range with 140 products at its Gateshead, Newcastle and Sunderland depots, but chose to launch with only 30 lines to avoid duplication for small shop owners.

Booker's director of retail and premier development Steve Fox said extending the range, which promises retailers a profit margin of 30%, would enable independents to compete more effectively with discounters.

"Euro Shopper is becoming a favourite with retailers and their shoppers," he said. "We estimate retailers will make an extra £1,000 profit by stocking the range. This is an example of our commitment to 'choice up, prices down' and better service."
